Authorities have provided an update on the horror train derailment in Wallan, north of Melbourne. The driver, 54-years-old from the ACT and the train pilot, a 49-year-old Castlemaine woman died at the scene.
Victoria Police confirmed that 11 other people went to the hospital with minor injuries. One person was airlifted, although their injury was not life-threatening.
The police are working with V/Line to determine how many passengers were on the train, which was travelling into Melbourne from Sydney. The passengers who were not injured were moved from the scene by bus.
The investigation is continuing between Victoria Police, V/Line and ATSB with the rail line expected to be closed for at least 24 hours.
