A Melbourne council has proposed fortnightly collections and it’s causing people to worry that waste will fester in the high-density neighbourhoods.

Yarra City Council wants to move to a four-bin model but as a result only collect residents waste evry two weeks.

Yarra councillor Stephen Jolly said he would not vote for the plan as it’s ‘bananas’.

The council is proposing four bins — household rubbish, glass, other recycling, and food and organics.

The organics would be collected weekly and the rest fortnightly.

Yarra council covers suburbs of Richmond, Fitzroy, Fitzroy North, Collingwood, Abbotsford, Clifton Hill and Carlton North.
