Unseasonably cool March weather is expected to help our firefighters.

Melbourne has recorded its coolest March day in four years as temperatures dropped to 10C overnight.

But while some might be hoping for warmer weather it comes as a relief for firefighters who can now hopefully get control of the 24+ fires that burn around the state.

“We are seeing cooler conditions right across the state. Cooler conditions will help the fires, they do not generally spread as much in cooler weather and lighter winds are more favourable,” BOM’s Rod Dixon said.

It’s not all good news though with Bunyip expecting to reach high 20s in the next few days and a northwesterly change posing a threat to one of the worst bushfires in the area.
