A woman was struck and killed by a vehicle on the side of the Mornington-Peninsula Link last night.

The Age is reporting that the 64-year-old Safety Beach woman had left her car when she was struck, and that she died at the scene.

Police say the the details of the incident are still being investigated, however it is to be understood that multiple cars had stopped on the side of the freeway at Moorooduc after colliding with debris on the road.

Three other people from separate vehicles were taken to hospital with minor injuries.
