A PUBLIC TRANSPORT DISASTER LOOMS IN MELBOURNE AS TRAM WORKERS THREATEN TO STRIKE AT THE SAME TIME AS THE CITY’S TRAIN WORKERS.

The Age is reporting that over 1500 Yarra Trams employees could join the fight for fairer pay in late July after “the Rail, Tram and Bus Union lodged an application with the Fair Work Commission to take the proposed strike action to a vote.”

Earlier in June, Metro train workers proposed industrial action.

The stalled negotiations are regarding the next enterprise bargaining agreement.

It’s believed the unions are upset at perceived efforts of the company to create a mass part-time workforce that harms workers and families’ job security.

Hopefully the parties reach an accord or else Melbourne’s public transport network would be brought to its knees.
