It’s the most romantic day of the year, but the weather is far from a fairytale.
As forecasted, Melbourne has received a warning for severe thunderstorms in the afternoon. The worst could include large hailstorms and heavy rainfall.
The Bureau of Meteorology have recommended that people secure their outdoor furntiture and belongings, stay indoors and away from windows, and stay away from trees, gutters and waterways.
BOM has also recommended that if conditions are unsafe, you should not travel. Those fancy dinner plans simply aren’t worth it.
The point has been proven by this footage taken above Avalon Airport at lunchtime. Wind gusted to 65km/h and 8mm of rain was recorded in 9 minutes and Sheoaks 40mm in 26 minutes.
