Phillip Island beaches will be closed this weekend.
The Bass Coast Shire Council has banned all residents and visitors from stepping foot on the sand, even for essential activities like walking.
“There’s no swimming, there’s no walking, there is no walking the dog, there is no surfing, there is no exception,” Bass Coast Shire CEO, Ali Wastie said.
The ban started at midnight Thursday and will last until midnight Easter Monday.
“Usually during the Easter period we receive our visitors with open arms, but now is not the time, we need to keep our community safe.”
The Shire went on to say they do not have the resources to cope with any spike in CoVid-19 cases, saying “we don’t have an Austin or an Alfred hospital here in Bass Coast so if we see a rise in people who are coming down with COVID-19, our hospital system cannot support it.”
