A grandfather has been attacked by a dog which was on a leash in Frankston.

69-year-old Gary Ward was travelling home from a doctors appointment on a mobility scooter. He stopped to speak to the woman who was walking the dog before the boxer mauled his hand.

Mr Ward told 9News that he lifted his hand gently to give the dog a pat before the pet attacked it. CCTV footage has captured the dog’s owner quickly leaving the scene.

Mr Ward was left on the street bleeding but managed to scooter home and call an ambulance. He then underwent emergency surgery.

The Frankston City Council are investigating the incident and are yet to determine whether it was a ‘serious attack’. If the dog is found guilty, it may be euthanised.
