Victorians who fail to comply with new laws set by the state government’s new legislation for public health could be fined up to $20,000.
This comes after Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews declared a state of emergency for a month which gives authorities more power to enforce new rules.
The Premier warned in a press conference on Monday morning that Victorians that are required to be in 14-day isolation after returning from overseas could be spot-checked.
Victorians could also find themselves seriously out of pocket for failing to comply with new orders around bans on gatherings of 500 people or more.
The Premier confirmed on Monday morning that school closures remain an ongoing discussion.
