Melbourne is becoming well known for embracing interesting food trends, from blue algae lattes to deconstructed coffee – we have a plethora of weird and creative foods to consume. The latest food trend to hit one Melbourne cafe isn’t for the squeamish.
Melbourne Cafe, Jethro Canteen, is now dishing up insects for intrepid Melburnian diners.
The richmond-based cafe are serving a Vietnamese roasted-cricket salad and there’s the second option of having a bowl of insects as a side dish. Forget about a side dish of trendy haloumi fries, it’s all about the bugs!
The insects are sourced from The Edible Bug Shop, who breed the insects in Sydney.
