Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews has announced that the state will be receiving a $1.3billion package into the health system.
Hospitals will get 4,000 intensive care beds, which will be upgraded from current beds in hospitals. It will raise the total of beds in the state to 4,500.
Health Minister Jenny Mikakos has said the beds won’t need to be used if Victorians follow the advice but they are planning for the worse case scenario.
Money in the package will also go towards personal protective equipment, which includes gowns and gloves for healthcare workers.
It has been confirmed that there are 51 new cases of coronavirus since yesterday, which brings the state total to 968. Community transmissions are at a total of 39.
