If you have not yet heard the news, Jarryd Roughead was yesterday given the all clear after being diagnosed with melanoma last year.

His oncologist, Professor McArthur from Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, has spoken out after his time working with Roughy.

“The big message is, and that’s Jarryd’s words as well, it’s better to prevent than try to cure,” he said.

“The other message is the investment in our medical research, leading to new discoveries of new treatments now we are getting good results and outcomes with more advanced cancers.

“I am a very strong believer in we need to prevent, we need to to detect early and we need more effective treatments.”

Professor McArthur also added that Australia had one of the highest rates in the world for skin cancers.
