Melbourne is producing some pretty unreal doughnuts lately and we thought that it was only fair to share them with you!
Doughnuts are so much more than those glazed rings they once were.
From chocolate-dipped, cinnamon-dusted, custard piped, sugar rolled and nutella filled, there is a doughnut to satisfy EVERYONE’S cravings.
With more and more doughnut being perfected at cafes around melbourne we thought that a doughnut crawl was in order!
Below is a list of places you need to hit up!
Footscray Olympic Doughnuts
Here, the dough is shaped into balls, deep friend until golden, rolled quickly into sugar and then speared and inserted with oooooodles of raspberry jam. Classic and perfect.
51 Irving Street, Footscray
Matt Forbes
British-born pastry chef Matt Forbes has created a cult following for his doughnuts and they seem to be taking over the city! His flavours change weekly but range from salted caramel to raspberry and custard.
Cobb Lane (Opening in November)
13 Anderson Street, Yarraville.
Tivoli Road Bakery
Even after this cafe changed hands, their staple dish, the doughnut, still exists and is still perfect produced. Tivoli Road bakery is also home to ‘dossants’ comprising flaky, croissant pastry with a well of custard in the centre.
3 Tivoli Road, South Yarra
Doughboys Doughnuts
These infamous Melbourne doughnuts can be found at various cafes around Melbourne. They are also in the process of setting up the first permanent store at 535 Bourke Street in the CBD. Their flavours are pretty outrageous… varying from maple bacon to rast blueberries and lime toast.
Check their website to see where you can find them before you embark on your crawl!
Europa Cake Shop
These doughnuts are something else. Firstly, they are baseball sized. They are then lightly glazed (healthy, right?) with dark plum jam in the centre. This store also has a lot of history, opening in 1982.
81 Acland Street, St Kilda
Candied Bakery
81a Hudsons Road, Spotswood
The fillings in these doughnuts are VERY generous so be careful with that first bite or you might lose half of it on the pavement!
Ascot Food Store
The flavour combinations at this store are out of this world.. ranging from salty snickers to white chocolate with freeze dried berries! These doughnuts are by far the most instagram worthy in Melbourne.
320 Ascot Vale Road, Moonee Ponds
Thanks for the tips Broadsheet!
