The eTree is now popping up in Australia.

But what is this unusual looking sculpture all about?

The eTree resembles a real tree and has a “canopy” made up of transparent solar panels that produce energy from the sun.

This amazing ecological sculpture offers a whole range of benefits when its added to a public space including free WiFi , a docking station to charge smartphones and tablets, outlets for electrical appliances, and a computer monitor that allows you to chat with friends who are at other eTrees!

Plus we think it looks pretty amazing as well!

This innovation is designed to bring people and communities together with renewable energy, art and nature.

Over the next 12 months over 20 eTrees are expected to be “planted” around Australia – everywhere from schools, public parks, universities, new residential developments and resorts.

It’s believed that our dry climate and latitude should make solar art like the eTree a perfect fit.

Guy Inbar, Director of DifferenThinking  said: “It’s taken millions of years, but mankind has finally designed a better tree. The old model provides shade, but the eTree provides shade on a hot day, plus a cold drink, free WiFi and a docking station for your iPhone.”

“Kids love to play around the eTree and adults love to use it to stay in touch.”
