It’s the song that was stuck in our heads last year but it is already being retired by Woolworths.
We have already lost the Homebrand, brand as part of Woolworths strategy to make itself a premium product and now?
It’s goodbye Select.
The supermarket has confirmed it will wave goodbye to it’s mid-tier label brand as it repositions its own products under one name, simply, ”Woolworths”.
They have chosen to withdraw the brand as it has struggled to compete with its direct competitors Coles and Aldi, who have lower priced products within the same tier.
A Woolworths spokesman told News Corp that the new label will be ”more food focused” and will offer their customers ”greater value”.
Currently more than 1,000 products carry the Select brand but most will be phased out, including deodorants and razors.
The label will be withdrawn starting immediately and is expected to completely be off the shelf by the end of 2017.
