Contestants on Wheel Of Fortune aren’t given much to work with when it comes to solving puzzles.
They know the category, the number of letters in each word, and of course any letters that have been guessed.
After that, they have to use everything they can to suss out what the answers are. One recent contestant must not have seen that memo though.
When facing a puzzle that was missing four letters, host Pat Sajak let a player named Reggie know a very important piece of information – that the remaining letters were only vowels.
With that, Reggie guessed the letter “W” which, although it has the letter “u” in it, it, of course, is not a vowel.
I’m going to start an @WheelofFortune greatest dump contestant page very soon. It seems to happen on a regular basis. Here’s @patsajak letting the contestants know there are only vowels left in the puzzle, you tell me what you think. pic.twitter.com/wVPoysBisJ

Not surprisingly, Twitter had a field day with the mistake:
Pat: “there are only vowels left”
Reggie: “W”#WheelOfFortune pic.twitter.com/pNDgAgp6h8— April Fool / Goof™ (@MetsFanInPhilly) 5 April 2019

Sadly for Reggie, he did not wind up with a “treasure chest” of prizes that night.
