The moment of silence was for the racial unrest going on in Ferguson, Missouri at the moment – a very sensitive issue, particularly in the US.
On stage to introduce the nominees for best hip-hop video, Common, the rapper, got up on stage and asked the audience to take a moment of silence.
Most people complied… But on the MTV live stream feed, Kim, Kylie and Kendall were busy with their noses in their phones.
