Vin Diesel has paid tribute to his late colleague and friend Paul Walker, by naming his new daughter after him.

Diesel, who starred with Walker in the Fast & Furious films, announced on the Today Show on Monday that he has named his daughter Pauline in honour of his friend.

The 47-year-old broke down in tears as he told Today’s Natalie Morales about his new daughter and the reasons behind her name.

“There’s no other person that I was thinking about as I was cutting this umbilical cord,” an emotional Diesel said.

“I knew he was there and it felt like, you know, a way to keep his memory a part of my family and a part of my world.”

Pauline is the third child for Diesel and his girlfriend, Paloma Jiminez.

Walker died in November 2013 at the age of 40, as a passenger in a car crash.

The seventh film in the Fast & Furious franchise, which was also Walker’s last, is due for release this year.
