Last night’s episode of The Bachelorette ended in one incredibly emotional rose ceremony, as Angie chose to let Ryan go before the finale tonight.
It was a pretty surprising finish seeing as Ryan was a fan favourite from the beginning, when it was revealed that he and Angie had had a little flirt before the show on social media.
The pair had an undeniable connection, especially over their shared love of dogs, with the only hiccup really being when it was revealed during the Truth Box episode that Ryan had actually applied for a previous season of The Bachelorette, while Angie thought he was only there for her.
Following his departure from the show, Ryan joined the Kyle and Jackie O show this morning when we asked him about this incident.
Ryan cleared it up, explaining that he really had been there this season just for Angie, only auditioning after finding out she was The Bachelorette.
“I did it completely off my own back,” Ryan said, revealing that he wasn’t approached by producers to do this season. “I saw that Angie announced as the Bachelorette and so I applied.”
When asked about his previous chats with Angie before the show, he explained that it wasn’t romantic at that stage “just for our mutual love of dogs”.
“It was purely just because we shared that mutual love of dogs and we’ve got sort of a similar social circle,” he said.
Jackie then wanted to know how he ended up applying for Ali’s season of The Bachelorette and whether the producers were involved that time around.
Ryan revealed that he was actually asked to audition for a whole bunch of dating shows, with one actually being for The Bachelor!
So by the sounds of things, if things had gone a little differently during the audition process we could have actually seen Ryan instead of Matt Agnew as our most recent Bachelor!
“That was a bit difficult because at the stage in my life when that all went down I had been asked to apply for a multitude of dating shows,” Ryan revealed. “I knocked back a ton of them and then I was just at the stage when I wanted to do something.
“And so I got flown over to Melbourne, did an audition, I wasn’t actually sure what it was for.”
Ryan said that during the audition he thought that it was for Ali’s season of the Bachelorette, which he had applied for, but it turned out to be The Bachelor.
“I was under the impression it was for Ali’s season. That wasn’t the case,” Ryan continued. “It was actually for The Bachelor.”
“This one I just genuinely in a bad head space and I would have made a sh*t Bachelor anyway to be honest at that stage in my life,” he added, because obviously he didn’t get the part. “So I’m glad it eventuated into nothing. And I really thought nothing of it because it was put well into the back of my mind.”
Ryan added that had he known it would have been such a big deal, he would have admitted that he had previously auditioned for dating shows to Angie straight away.
So now that he’s single, would Ryan do The Bachelor now?
“What about now if they approached you?” Jackie asked.
“I don’t think I would be able to handle that pressure,” Ryan answered.
“I saw how much pressure Angie was under and the taxing it had on her mental wellbeing and it’s not something that I think I could put myself through physically because I’m not that kind of person that would be able to date 20 people and not feel something for all of them.
“I don’t think I’d be able to make the decisions.”
Ryan did admit though that he’s ready to put himself back on the dating scene NOT on reality TV, so if your a dog lover in Melbourne your perfect guy could be right there waiting for you.
