Ever wanted to know which passwords to avoid using?

SplashData have revealed their annual list, and there’s a few passwords that have us asking: “What were you thinking?”

They’ve compiled all of the stolen and leaked passwords of last year, and ranked them in order of popularity.

The list is here, with their position relative to the 2013 list as well.

1. 123456 (unchanged)
2. password (unchanged)
3. 12345 (up 17)
4. 12345678 (down one)
5. qwerty (down one)
6. 123456789 (unchanged)
7. 1234 (up nine)
8. baseball (new)
9. dragon (new)
10. football (new)
11. 1234567 (down four)
12. monkey (up five)
13. letmein (up one)
14. abc123 (down nine)

22. 696969 (new)
23. 123123 (down 12)
24. batman (new)
25. trustno1 (down 1)

This proves a few things about how we’ve progressed with technology:

1. There are a lot of Michael’s in the world.

2. They seem to only have the cognitive ability to count to six.

3. We’ve collectively learnt nothing about password protection.

Please, just please, don’t use any of the above as passwords… Unless you want to get hacked…
