This past Sunday Terri Irwin celebrated her late husband, Steve, gushing over their love in time for their 28th anniversary.

Terri shared a beautiful photo and tribute to the Crocodile Hunter, “It was 28 years ago today, here at @AustraliaZoo, that Steve asked me to marry him. Life is constantly changing. Love is forever,” she wrote on Twitter.

During an interview with PEOPLE last year, Terri recalled “the sparks were immediate”, in reference to her and Steve’s first meeting in 1991.

“Right away we were talking about wildlife, and our passions in life and I kept thinking, ‘I wonder if this guy’s married,” she told PEOPLE.

“He said to me, ‘Would you like to meet my girlfriend, Sue?’  I tried to be cool about it, but I was devastated. Then he goes, ‘Hey Sue, Suey, come here.’ And his little dog came running around the corner. ‘This is my girlfriend, Sue,’ he said. I thought, ‘Yes!’”

The pair married in mid 1992 and had two children together, Bindi and Robert.

In 2006, Steve Irwin was filming a documentary series Ocean’s Deadliest when he was killed by a Stingray. He was 44 and passed away on September 4th, 2006.
