There is much sadness as we learn details of the death of stunning pageant contestant, Yumara Lopez, who represented Nicaragua in the Miss World contest in 2014.
Lopez discovered she had a grade two astrocytoma in the run-up to the international competition. Despite her terminal illness, Lopez travelled to London to compete with contestants from over 120 countries.
Lopez was famously given her Miss World status when Maria Esther Cortes Malina renounced her crown.
Nicaraguans are mourning Lopez after she died yesterday at the Alejandro Davila Bolanos Military Hospital in Managua, according to a report on the Daily Star.
The director of Miss World Nicaragua and her representative, Denis Davila, lamented her death, describing her as a “fighter”.
Tributes have been pouring in for the beauty.
This is not the first tragedy to hit the pageant world, just last year Austria’s beauty queen hopeful died after plunging off the side of a mountain.
