We’ve got a job for you when you arrive home today Harry Potter fans – check your copy of The Philosopher’s Stone IMMEDIATELY!

There’s only about 500 copies of this rare edition in existence, but if you’re one of the lucky few that own this specific Harry Potter book, you could be almost $50K richer!

A rare first-edition copy of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, which includes the original misspellings and typos, is set to fetch nearly 30,000 Euros in an auction in London, which is about $48,000 here in Australia.

The book, which is the first in the series of J.K Rowling’s fantasy novels about the wizarding world, was published in 1997 by Bloomsbury and is set to go under the hammer next month.

It’s predicted that it will rake in between 20,000 and 30,000 Euros.

The news just keeps getting better and better for this one Harry Potter fan, who bought the first-edition of book one Euro before going on a holiday 20 years ago.

Meaning once this thing gets sold at the auction he’ll rake in quite the profit!

“I thought nothing of it at the time. I read the book, in fact I’ve read all the Harry Potter series, and then put it away in a cupboard for years,” the owner told LadBible.

“It’s so exciting to think that a holiday read could be worth so much now. It might raise more than enough money to buy a nice new bathroom.”

Jim Henson, a book expert from Hansons Auctioneers, referred to the first-edition copy as the “holy grail” of Harry Potter books.

“I was called to a client’s house near stafford to value three boxes of books and there it was – the holy grail of Harry Potter books,” he said to LadBible.

“I receive a few calls every week from people saying they have a first edition Harry Potter, and it can invariably be ruled out in seconds, or it’s one of the titles from later in the series when production was huge because of it’s success,” he continued.

“The one we’ve found is a former Staffordshire Library book which is stamped ‘withdrawn from stock’.”

“They weren’t sure if it was a Harry Potter first edition but I soon established that it was thanks to some typographical errors that particular version is renowned for.”

The book will be auctioned in London on July 31st, which happens to be the birthday of both J.K Rowling and Harry Potter!
