They went from colleagues to being married in just a matter of four years, but how did Peter Stefanovic and Sylvia Jeffrey’s love story actually start?
Peter joined Kyle and Jackie O in studio when he explained just how their relationship began, calling the moment that she agreed to marry him his “greatest achievement”.
“How long have you guys been together for now?” Jackie asked Peter this morning.
“I think it’s about four year; four and a half years,” Peter replied. “We’ve been married for two and a bit.”
“How’d you get that? How did you do the swooning?” Kyle continued.
“When all is said and done, that will be my greatest achievement, is convincing her to marry me,” Peter revealed.
But before things turned serious between Peter and Sylvia, he told us exactly how they struck up a romantic relationship. And it turns out, things started out very casual between them!
“There’s sparks! You see sparks. I got the vibe and then I had to go away, I had to go back to London for a while but we stayed in touch,” he explained, referencing his time as an overseas correspondent.
“Yeah we’d stay in touch and I’d come back and we’d hang out.”
“Did you make her promise that she could only be with you while you were overseas or did you allow her to do whatever?” Kyle asked, very intrigued.
“Nah just do whatever,” Peter continued.
While it appeared to be casual, Pete told us that the whole time he knew that Sylvia was something special and that their relationship would be too.
“No, but I knew that there was something there. We just knew.”
Like they say, when you know, you just know.
Peter and Sylvia went on to marry in a gorgeous ceremony in Kangaroo Valley on April Fools Day in 2017.
As for if the pair are ready to take the next step and start a family together anytime soon, Peter told us that for now they’re just focusing on being together.
“We’ve had a few things on. There’s been some distraction,” he laughed, referencing the drama when both he and Sylvia were let go from The Today Show.
“But we’re both hard workers and so we wanted to have some time by ourselves anyway for a few years after we got married.
