Music mogul Molly Meldrum has been hospitalised in Melbourne after injuries he suffered during a fall four years ago flared up.
The 73-year-old had been working as a DJ on board businessman’s Lindsay Fox’s 10-day cruise but was forced to return to his home country when his health problems kicked in.
“After struggling with an acute health issue whilst overseas, Molly Meldrum has been safely returned home to Australia for urgent evaluation and treatment,” Dr Brian Pliatsos told Australia’s Daily Telegraph newspaper.
“The decision to manage him in Australia was made to ensure appropriate continuity of care given some ongoing complications following his serious fall a few years ago.”
The fall Dr Pliatsos was referring to is believed to have been the one four years ago, when Meldrum was left in a coma following a near-fatal fall at his home in Australia when he suffered injuries including a fractured skull after slipping off a ladder while putting up Christmas decorations.
He was also hospitalised in January, after suffering cracked ribs and a dislocated shoulder after taking a tumble outside a hotel in Bangkok, Thailand.
But now, after this latest incident, Meldrum is battling back to health.
“I want to assure everybody that his prognosis is excellent and ask that his privacy be respected pending a full and proper recovery,” Dr Pliatsos added
