We’ve all been guiltily revelling in the drama of this year’s Married At First Sight, but should we be more concerned about how the sausage is made?

ABC’s Media Watch did a special on the MAFS phenomenon on Monday night and brought to light a number of claims levelled against the show’s executive producer Tara McWilliams.

Dean Wells told Media Watch he informed McWilliams he wanted to leave the show after his “affair” with Davina, but was met with threats.

“They forced me to stay,” he said.

“We’ll make you look bad if you don’t stay.”

Andrew Jones, 2017’s villain, expressed similar claims.

“I was emotionally unwell at that point, melting down actually and not getting any support from them.”

“The conversation started calmly but I was told by Tara in a raised voice: ‘It will look bad for you if you leave now.'”

In response, Endemol Shine Australia told Media Watch the claims “simply weren’t true.”

While it’s a case of he-said-she-said at the moment, what we do know for sure is that whatever they’re doing is working from a commercial standpoint with the show pulling in record amounts of advertising dollars.
