Women of colour in the Twitterverse are not happy with the casting of Kendall Jenner in Mango’s latest campaign.
The Barcelona-based retailer has Kendall starring in their “Tribal Spirit” themed campaign, but have received backlash as she is a white model representing African heritage.
They plan to feature four different models and themes throughout the season, and they teased the campaign showing behind-the-scenes shots of Jenner dancing and acting goofy.
Although the images look more bohemian and western than “tribal”, Mango’s collection is said to be inspired by the African savannah.
The announcement of a white model representing African heritage has spurred cultural appropriation claims across social media.
