It was by far one of the best moments to happen in the music industry so far this year – the moment that Katy Perry and Taylor Swift hugged it out and put their long-running feud behind them.
Fans of the two singers lost the plot as the surprising moment took place at the very end of Tay Tay’s latest music video for You Need To Calm Down.
The pair symbolised the fact that they’re practically two peas in a pod by dressing up as the perfect pair – A Hamburger and Fries.
And truly it was heartwarming!
But of course ever since that moment, we’ve been wondering how the two super stars managed to get to this point after all of the backup dancer stealing and subtle shade over the years.
Katy Perry herself took over the Kyle and Jackie O show this morning and so of course we asked her how her epic makeup with Taylor actually went down. And she explained the whole thing to us in detail!
As it turns out, Katy was the one to make the first move towards a reconciliation with that literal olive branch that we all saw a photo of on Instagram!
“How did you guys heal that wound?” Kyle asked this morning.
“Well, it kind of was a process,” Katy told us. “I sent her a literal olive branch and a note apologising for my part in all of it, when she started her reputation tour. I just thought she was about to embark on something new and big and needed the support.
“Truly it was as I was finishing mine [her tour] I realised how much we have in common and maybe there’s only five other people in the world that can have the same type of conversations and understand where we’re coming from and that we should celebrate our commonality our friendship and to be able to be there for each other.
After reaching out, Katy told us that some time went by and eventually her and Taylor began running into each other at various industry events. But instead of things being awkward, she thought that it was time to move on and be able to have a conversation with each other.
“I just went up to her and I was like, ‘Hey, you know it’s been a long time and I think we’ve grown up a little bit and I just wanted to say I’m sorry and I’m really here for you and that I love you and I hope that we can be friends in the future’,” Katy continued.
After apologising and talking for a bit, Katy explained that they were both able to trust one another again. And shortly after, Taylor came to Katy with the idea for the YNTCD music video.
“She got my number and we started texting and she had this really cool idea and I said, ‘Yeah let’s talk about it’, and she invited me over to her house and she made me some cookies and she actually makes those cookies and they’re actually delicious.”
Yep remember that pic of the cookies we also saw on Insta last month? They really were reconciliation cookies!
Katy said that her and Tay also bonded over their love for cats and played around with Taylor’s many pets during their meeting at her house.
We couldn’t be happier about this newfound friendship, and we think Katy definitely feels the same.
“I think that both her and I, we have influence to young people and especially young girls who are in this type of situation day in and day out at school,” Katy said.
“It’s amazing that we’ve had this opportunity to change and I just hope that other people can learn from it too.”
“It’s a great message!” Kyle concluded.
