James Corden has spoken out on his talk show last night defending himself against a viral video that appeared to indicate that he doesn’t actually drive during his infamous carpool karaoke segments.

Fans were left completely shook by the footage filmed by a fan that showed Corden and Justin Bieber filming an episode, with the Range Rover being pulled down the street by a truck.

“This is why I have trust issues,” wrote the fan in the caption of the video.

Corden has since decided to address the footage on his show in order to put all of the talk to rest, labelling all of the talk as “fake news”.

“There’s been some very very serious allegations made against me and I want to get ahead of everything and address those rumours and assure you, my audience that these accusations are not true,” Corden said.

“I am of course talking about the people saying I don’t drive the car during Carpool Karaoke,” James continued dramatically as the audience burst into laughter.

James went on to say that he actually does drive in most of the segment but only steps away from the wheel when they are doing something that could be dangerous.

“I know this looks bad,” he said. “But I just want to say right now that I always drive the car unless we’re doing something where we think it might not be safe, like a dance routine or a costume change or if I’m drunk.”

Corden continued the comedy in his excuse saying, “In the case of Justin Bieber, it was a safety issue where we thought it would be best to tow the car. Frankly, I kept getting lost in his eyes.”

James joked that he couldn’t believe how upset people were over the footage, saying he didn’t think he could upset people more than he did with the film ‘Cats’.

“I swear to you, 95 per cent of the time I really am endangering the lives of the world’s biggest pop stars.”

He then made another announcement about the Carpool Karaoke segments that could shock some viewers…

“I hate to be the bearer of even more bad news, but while we’re getting things out in the open, I don’t actually need [the celebrities] to help me get to work – often, I’m at work already.”

Shocked and confused at that one tbh. We really believed he needed help getting in the Carpool lane…

Later James shared a picture with Meghan Trainor, teasing that she’ll be the next celeb to join the segment.
