According to the Herald Sun, there’s been a sharp increase in the number of Melbourne seniors being busted shoplifting.

The number of people aged 60+ who were caught shoplifting was up 20% in 2013-14, but offenders in the 80+ age bracket increased by a whopping 29%.

Ian Yates, chief executive of Council on the Ageing chief, told the Herald Sun it was likely the offenders were under financial strain, were supporting a habit or were beginning to suffer from dementia.
