The boy from Oz is heading home.
Hollywood star Hugh Jackman has announced a live concert tour of Australia in November.
Jackman will perform his own stage show, Broadway To Oz, with choirs, dancers and musicians on an arena tour around the country, singing songs from shows he has been in or wanted to be in.
“Anybody who knows me knows that keeping secrets is not my forte … today is the announcement of a true bucket list moment for me,” Jackman told reporters in Sydney on Monday.
While audiences may have become used to seeing Jackman as his Marvel comic alter-ego Wolverine, the actor is also a Tony-Award winning performer.
He won the 2004 Tony Award for Best Leading Actor in a musical for his performance in The Boy From Oz, based on the life of Australian singer-songwriter Peter Allen.
“You will get to know the real me,” Jackman said of the arena show which will mix songs with his own storytelling.
Jackman’s wife, Deborra-Lee Furness and his daughter Ava were at the announcement and the actor pointed them out at his big announcement.
“Most guys say can I go golfing with buddies, I say to Deb ‘can I do my show’,” he said.
The eight-date concert tour will kick off in Melbourne on November 24, continuing on to Sydney, Perth, Adelaide and Brisbane.
