I don’t actually know if Harry Styles knows how powerful he is.
It seems that with just one comment, he can effecively cause the downfall of a major company.
Such is the case for SeaWorld.
According to a report on the Daily Mail, a single sentence criticism by the One Direction star has led to a surge of anger against the water park. The anger is so powerful, analysts say it’s created a ‘brand impairment issue’, meaning that this issue is what people will associate SeaWorld with now.
So what did Harry say that caused such a stir? It was just four words during a One Direction concert in San Diego…
“Don’t go to SeaWorld.”
According to the report, these four words hed to a 400 per cent spike in negative comments about the controversial park, which is already suffering, due to a documentary criticised its treatment of killer whales.
SeaWorld reported an 84 per cent decrease in profits earlier this month.
In response to Harry’s on-stage comments, SeaWorld did issue an open letter to the singer on July 15, inviting him to visit one of their parks and speak with their trainers and veterinarians.
‘We want you to know we love dolphins too,’ the letter reads. ‘We care for the animals in our parks like we would our own family. We are committed to making sure their lives are enriching and they are continually engaged socially, mentally and physically.
‘In fact, SeaWorld has rescued more than 480 whales and dolphins.’
