The Little Mermaid is just one of many Disney classics that is getting it’s own live-action remake and while we’re just excited that it’s happening at all, a lot of people have been focused on who will play each character.
And more specifically, who will take on the ever important role of the curious mermaid turned human, Ariel.
While names like Ariana Grande and Zendaya have been thrown around by fans, it’s now been announced that Halle Bailey is the chosen one who will be “part of that world”.
Director Rob Marshall announced the exciting news about the latest Disney princess in a statement.
“After an extensive search, it was abundantly clear that Halle possess that rare combination of spirit, heart, youth, innocence and substance – plus a glorious singing voice – all intrinsic qualities necessary to play this iconic role,” he said to E! News in a statement.
Bailey, who is part of R&B duo Chloe x Halle, shared her excitement about the role on Twitter, alongside a picture of Ariel as a brunette.
