Temperatures are expected to plunge in Victoria, with some parts of the state to get as low as minus 4C, and a severe frost warning issued.

Severe frosts which can cause crop damage are forecast for the Mallee, Wimmera, Northern Country, North Central and North East forecast districts on Monday morning.

But ground level temperatures could be “many degrees lower” than those recorded at standard weather stations, especially in calm conditions with clear skies, the Bureau of Meteorology warned.

Frosts are also expected for parts of the South West, Central, West, South and East Gippsland areas with temperatures to get down to minus 3C.
