A mother, Maria, bought a bunch of bananas from the supermarket, Tesco and got the fright of her life!

What she found hiding in the bag of fruit was a rare and deadly spider, later confirmed as the Brazilian wandering spider, whose venom can give a man a four hour painful erection! The venom can also kill humans within two hours!

When Maria opened the bag for her six-year-old daughter, she found they were infested with eggs.

The spiders then began to hatch, so she quickly put the bag in a sealed container in the freezer and called Tesco customer service.

The bananas had been imported for Costa Rica.

Maria told Daily Mirror “Siri (her daughter) asked for a banana. The first banana had a funny bit, so I got another one for her and that was when I found the massive spider cocoon. There was a spider web on the other bananas too. When I saw the cocoon it rang a bell and I thought I should check it so I google’d it. There was an image that looked very similar to mine. I was so scared…and was very frightened about the potential threat.”

When she called customer service, Tesco said she should bring the bananas back to the store so that they could scan the barcode and have her money refunded.

“I was shocked, they failed to see the potential threat to me and my family and thought I was only interested in having a pound or so back.”

The Brazilian wanderer spider’s venom is currently being studied for use in erectile dysfunction treatments.
