Most times when people act in films together, you assume they get along very well, sometimes a little too well, eh Brad and Ange?
You kind of gather that even if things weren’t that peachy, you’d never know about it, right?
Well, Charlize Theron has changed everything.
Apparently while filming the huge success that is Mad Max: Fury Road, she and Tom Hardy “struggled” to get along.
In an interview with WSJ magazine, Theron said she and Hardy weren’t exactly the best of friends during the nine month filming.
“From what I hear, he’s not like that on every movie — I hear he’s had good experiences,” said Theron.
“Maybe the movie is what it is because we struggled so much with each other, and those characters had to struggle so much with each other. If we were chum-chum, maybe the movie would have been 10 times worse.”
However, the rivalry didn’t come as a surprise to director, George Miller, who said it was only natural that their character’s rivalry would influence their relationship off-screen.
“I’m not saying that they were seething right through,” said Miller, “but the trajectory of the character can’t help but seep into the work.”
“When they first meet each other, they’re trying to kill each other. As the two characters come together out of necessity and rather reluctantly, they have to find a degree of trust. And to some extent that was the trajectory of their relationship as well.”
