Just a few hours ago, Sex and the City author Candace Bushnell took part in a Facebook live chat with Cosmopolitan.com.

One of the questions that we’ve all been wondering, was finally answered by the powerhouse; ‘In an alternate universe, would Carrie have ended up with Aiden and not Big and lived happily ever after?’

In an alternate universe, would Carrie have ended up with Aiden and not Big and lived happily ever after?

“You know, if she had ended up with Aiden, that could have been OK, I think. Aiden was a good guy, he was in love with her, she was in love with him. But I think they wanted different lifestyles,” she said.

“One of the things that I found in life is that sometimes when you’re in your 20s or 30s and a relationship isn’t right for you, sometimes you don’t want that lifestyle and the strange thing that happens is when you get older, all of a sudden you realize, ‘I’d be happy to have that conservative, more settled lifestyle.’ For Carrie, Aiden represented settling down. And Big still represented the big adventure.”

Excitingly, Candace also shared where she thought Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte would be in present day, because hey, she’s the only one that can REALLY make that call right?

“I think that they would probably be keeping apace with what’s happening today. Well actually, if that were true, that would mean Mr. Big lost his job because he was middle aged, a lot of guys lose their job. Carrie would be taking up the slack. She would be working harder than ever and would probably be supporting Mr. Big. Samantha, I don’t know, she should be like Mayor of New York. Miranda would probably be advocating on the part of women for their rights on social media and to not get bullied… and Charlotte’s kids would still be in school and she’d probably be on the board of the school.”

Candace also divulged that the REAL Mr.Big, who inspired the character lives on a horse farm in Vermont.

“And that’s what kills me, because a couple of years ago I had horses too and was thinking, ‘How could I not have ended up with Mr. Big?’ It could have been perfect. Now, 20 years later…”
