Calvin Harris has broken his silence since splitting from Taylor Swift, insisting the former couple still has a “huge amount of love and respect” for each other.

News of the break-up broke on Wednesday and a day later the Scottish DJ confirmed the reports with a simple statement on Twitter.com.

“The only truth here is that a relationship came to an end & what remains is a huge amount of love and respect,” he wrote.

Swift later retweeted the post, but did not offer up any additional comments.

However, her good friends have started offering up their support should she need it – longtime best pal Abigail Anderson sent her a warm message via Instagram.

Posting a photo of a note card with a watercolour pink heart in the centre and the phrase “My weird heart loves your weird heart”. In the caption she wrote: “There are few things more significant or valuable than a friendship that will withstand the test of time. Thank you for getting me. Always.”

It’s unclear whether Abigail created the card or if Swift gave the note to her longtime pal.

The break-up is said to have occurred last week, just days after Harris was involved in a car accident in Beverly Hills, California, while en route to the airport to catch a flight to Las Vegas for a gig.

Harris cancelled four appearances following the crash on May 20 to give him time to recuperate, but he was well enough to travel back to his native UK on Monday.

The DJ was introduced to Swift through mutual friend Ellie Goulding.
