It seems like just yesterday that Angelina Jolie underwent a double mastectomy, to remove both breasts in a bid to save her from the cancer she was at a high risk of receiving, as she possessed the mutated BRCA1 gene.

Her mother, Marcheline Bertrand died from ovarian cancer at age 56.

Now, just two years later she’s back under the knife, and this time she’s had her ovaries and fallopian tubes removed.

This now means that Jolie will be unable to bear any more children.

Just like with her double mastectomy, the star chose to reveal the news in a column for The New York Times.

She recounts her whole experince in the column, but here is a snippet that reveals the side effects of such an operation.

“I had been planning this for some time. It is a less complex surgery than the mastectomy, but its effects are more severe. It puts a woman into forced menopause. So I was readying myself physically and emotionally, discussing options with doctors, researching alternative medicine, and mapping my hormones for estrogen or progesterone replacement,” she said.
