Most mums would do anything to keep their kids quiet, but US mum, Shelly, owes her life to the cries of her baby girl – the sound of little Rylan woke her from a coma.

After giving birth via emergency C-section, Shelly suffered a blood clot breaking loose mid-surgery, sending her into a coma. After Shelly remained unconscious for a number hours, nurse, Ashley Manus, decided to place the little newborn on her mum for skin-to-skin contact. Long thought to be beneficial for the baby, Manus figured it might also help the mother. She was right: Rylan cried, as babies do, and amazingly Shelly had a spike in her vitals.

Husband and new-dad, Jeremy, told Buzzfeed News that this spike stabilsed his wife and she woke up a few days later.

“I remember staring at Rylan’s face and thinking she is the most beautiful baby in the world,” Shelly told Buzzfeed.“I know every mum feels that way but I felt like we had a special connection because of everything that had happened.”

But, we think Shelly might be right…
