Your Kids Could Be Left UNATTENDED At School

Melbourne schools are about to start cracking down on parents who are avoiding paying for out of hours care by leaving kids unsupervised in the playground before and after school.

It comes after primary school principals raised concerns over the safety of children being dropped off as early as 8am when teachers are yet to start their duties.

Some schools have now started to introduce a policy where a second bell will ring once school has finished for a period of time and the remaining students must report to a welfare office.

Werribee Primary, according to Herald Sun, have already sent a notification to parents to remind them that school hours are from 8:30am until 3:30pm with anything outside these times falling into out-of-hours care that is the parents responsibility.

Education department spokesman Simon Craig stated that schools were generally responsible for care between 8:30am and 3:30pm unless there are other factors but outside of these hours, parents have to pay another party for care.
