World's Tallest Waterslide To Be Torn Down

The world's tallest waterslide, the Verrückt ride, is a 17-story slide found in the Schlitterbahn water park in Kansas City in the US state of Missouri.

It has remained closed since an incident in August, where 10-year-old Caleb Schwab was killed on the ride. He was the son of a Kansas state senator.

Since August, authorities surrounding the investigation, and the park have been quite careful to release any details about the incident.

However, a source told the Associated Press that the child had in fact been decapitated on the ride, which of course opened up many questions into what safety oversights caused such a serious injury.

There had been a private safety inspection of the slide in June which was passed. Although, one rider had expressed concerns, saying that some restraints had popped loose.

Claims that staff were allowing groups onto the ride that did not make the required weight limit also were brought forward.

A spokesperson from the park has confirmed:
Once the investigation is concluded and we are given permission by the court, Verrückt will be decommissioned — closed permanently and the slide removed from the tower. In our opinion, it is the only proper course of action following this tragedy.
