What Exactly Happened On Fatal Dreamworld Ride

The final moments of four people who were killed on a Dreamworld ride have been revealed.

Kate Goodchild, 32, her brother Luke Dorsett, 35, his partner Roozbeh Arahi, 38, and another unnamed woman were killed after their Thunder River Rapids vessel flipped on the ride’s conveyor belt.

In a press conference, Queensland Police revealed they had watched CCTV footage of those fatal final moments.

“There were four adults on that ride – two males, two females and there were two children on that same flume,” Assistant Commissioner Brian Codd told reporters.

“We know that undercurrents have seen that particularly flume be turned over and flipped, resulting in it falling back on top of those persons and those persons being variously caught in machinery.’

He said that the incident occurred towards the conclusion of the ride where people disembark.

“Something has occurred where those have come together and as a result one has flipped backwards and it has caught and tossed some of the people who were on the ride backwards on the conveyer belt,” he said.

The two young girls aged 10 and 13 were the only survivors.

He said a thorough investigation had been initiated under the Queensland’s coroner’s office.

Talking to the ABC, one witness, Lia Capes, described how children and adults were crying as they ran out the entrance where people were lined up.

"We saw [a] little girl and we believe it was her mum because it was just her and her little sister that was an infant," she said.

"I was speaking to one of the guys and he said it was the raft or the boat thing in front of him, the whole thing flipped and everyone was screaming."

Another told The Courier Mail of the graphic scene that faced witnesses.

“My sister and niece were on the ride, they are so traumatised, there is a woman hanging by her foot, crushed from the ride,” they said.

Dreamworld has since closed indefinitely following the tragic accident.
