Victorian Blackout Continues After Deadly Winds

Crews have worked through the night to restore power to thousands of Victorians blacked out since the weekend's deadly wins.

More than 22,000 properties were still without power as of 6pm on Monday night.

Wind gusts hitting more than 100km/h lashed Victoria on Sunday, felling a tree that killed one woman in her Millgrove home and hospitalising at least 20 others from flying debris.

Authorities responded to 5200 calls for help between 7am on Sunday and 6pm on Monday, with about 2100 trees felled and 1131 buildings damaged, Emergency Management Victoria says.

The EMV said on Monday evening power companies were still working to restore electricity to homes.

"Extensive damage to poles and wires from the winds and falling trees, combined with the sheer scale of the event, mean that restoration times could extend into Tuesday," EMV said in a statement.
