Two In Custody After Baby Girl Found Dead On QLD Beach

Update 7:10am:

Two people have been taken into custody in relation to a baby who passed away on a Surfers Paradise beach overnight. 

The young child is said to be around two years old. 

A man and a woman are said to be assisting police with their enquiries into the incident. 

Detectives are continuing to work to determine the young girl's cause of death and to confirm her identity. 

The crime scene has reportedly been packed up as the tide comes in - but not after an extensive search of the area overnight. 

Police stress the incident is not related to the schoolies celebrations. 


Mystery surrounds the death of an infant who was found unresponsive on the beach overnight near Schoolies celebrations at Surfers Paradise. 

The unidentified baby girl was reportedly attended to by emergency services at around 12:30am on Monday.

She was found unresponsive on the beach near Staghorn Avenue and the Esplanade, just 750m from Cavill Avenue. 

The baby was not discovered by a school leaver.

CPR was performed but they were unable to revive the baby. 

The age of the infant has not been disclosed. 

"A crime scene has been declared as detectives work to determine the cause of the girl’s death and to confirm the girl’s identity," the police report states.

"There is no further information available at this time."
