Tram Collides With Mini Van In Melbourne CBD

A tram has smashed into a van carrying special needs passengers in Melbourne overnight.

The minivan was carrying 4 special needs teenagers and 4 carers and was travelling along King Street when a tram travelling along Collins Street smashed into it.

The van was pushed 100m down the street and then smashed into a parked car, mounted the curb and crashed into a pillar.

A carer of the teenagers was trapped in the car for quite some time and in total four people were taken to hospital.

The group was in Melbourne for a school excursion from the Bass Coast.

Trams are expected to operate as normal this morning.
