This Victorian School Is Scrambling To Remove Pell's Name
Disgraced Cardinal and convicted child sex abuser George Pell has been stripped of honours in his name at his old school.
St Patrick's College in Ballarat, which Pell attended from 1949-1959 has finally made the decision to distance themselves from Australia's highest-ranking Catholic.
A building previously named in his honour will be renamed the Waterford Wing, while a line will be struck through his name on an honour board.
"The jury's verdict demonstrates that Cardinal Pell's behaviours have not met the standards we expect of those we honour as role models for the young men we educate," Headmaster John Crowley said.
"The college aims at every opportunity to fulfil our mission of raising fine boys to the status of great men."
This comes as Richmond Football Club removed Pell as club vice-patron yesterday.
The 77-year-old played for the club in 1959 where he was a ruckman in the reserves prior to joining the priesthood.
