There Has Been An Overnight Carjacking Near A Melbourne Icon
A Melbourne man has been carjacked at knifepoint in a terrifying attack near the MCG.
Police are now investigating the attack which is being described as an "armed robbery and theft of car’’ on Jolimont Street in East Melbourne, just after 7 PM.
“The owner of the car was approached by two unknown men, one produced a knife,” Victoria Police spokeswoman Belinda Batty said.
“The men took off in the victim’s Holden sedan.
“The victim was not injured and is currently assisting police.”
The carjacking happened metres from a childcare centre and just hours after the Melbourne V Carlton AFL match at the MCG.
Police revealed in June that carjackings in Victoria had increased by 80 per cent.
