It’s being reported that at least four people have died after a shooting at a newspaper officer in Maryland over in the United States.

Police responded to reports of an active shooter at The Capital Gazette newspaper in Annapolis, with several people believed to be fatally shot and many more injured. It's understood that a suspect has since been apprehended.

At this point in time the shooting is being treated by police as a local incident and not once that involves terrorism. The Federal Bureau of Investigation is said to be on the scene assisting local authorities.

The streets surrounding the building were locked down and anyone nearby was told to take shelter as a precaution.

Phil Davis, who is a courts and crime reporter at the Capital Gazette, was at the scene during the shooting and he tweeted that multiple people had been shot by a single shooter.

Mr Davis also wrote on Twitter that he was hiding under his desk while the shooter was still active.

More as we get it.
