Melburnian's Told To Prepare For Traffic As City Mourns
VicRoads have announced the plans for this evenings vigil of Aiia Maasarwe.
In-line with the planned vigil on the steps of Parliament at 6PM, which is expected to last until 8PM, it has been organised for a route 86 tram to travel from Parliament Station at 8:01PM to Bundoora Park.
Vigil organisers have invited members of the community to place flowers on the tram as it makes it way through the city, into Northcote and then along Plenty Road to Bundoora Park.
Working together, Vic Roads, PTV and Victoria Police have alerted Melburnians that they are working together to ensure the gathering is safe and dependent on crowd numbers, some roads may need to close.
Maasarwe’s body was found in scrub near a shopping centre in Bundoora on Wednesday morning by a passer-by and homicide detectives believe it likely the woman had been on the route 86 tram from Docklands on Tuesday night.
A man was arrested this afternoon in relation to the investigation.
